This training guide has been developed to provide consumers, family members and other advocates, information for presentations, circle meetings, focus groups etc. This training guide is for public use and dissemination and is not copyrighted.
GOAL: To increase the involvement of Consumers and Family members in the following areas:
- Decision making and policy formation
- Service planning
- Delivery and evaluation of publicly funded Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse Services
STRATEGIES:
- Provide ongoing education and information to consumers, family members and other advocates
- Pioneer new ways for families and consumers to become meaningfully involved in all levels of Virginia's public Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse systems.
- Encourage and promote involvement on the highest possible level, resulting in empowerment of self help for family members and consumers.
