"Handicaps Unlimited of Southwest Virginia is a non-profit organization formed and governed by persons with physical and or sensory disabilities in an effort to educate the public to the problems of individuals with different disabilities; to the need for the removal of architectural and attitudinal barriers, and to establish and maintain a comprehensive resource center where direct individual and community services are provided locally to persons who are physically challenged, family members and care givers, i a community based setting."

"Our mission is to enhance the lives of individuals who are physically challenged by empowering them with knowledge and skills in independent living skills training, advocacy, peer counseling, information and referral services, and other needed services as identified by  each individual consumer in a community based setting; and networking with local and state agencies including schools, Department of Social Services, the Virginia Department of Rehabilitative Services and other agencies."
